Sacto tunes from 74'
I got paid a little over-time from Valentine's Day, so I went and bought a couple of records. One of my finds was a Sacramento comp from 1974 called "Home Grown". It was put out by K108 on K108 Records. It has 12 tracks by folks that I've never heard of before. Most of them are singer/songwriter types that you would find at an open mic or maybe a vegetarian potluck. Kinda folky and bluesy and.....................well, you know. Every song on here makes references to Sacramento. They talk about streets, landmarks, and different parts of town. A lot of the places they mention aren't around anymore, like the Alhambra Theatre. That was tore down before this was put out. Thinking about that makes me miss the corner of L and 15th. It was a great combination of a music store, a book store and coffee shop that put on lots of shows. What more could you ask for? They moved those places out and replaced it with some fancy ass resturant plaza thing called "The Park", that caters to a more "professional" type of clientele. Chances are, It wasn't named after that Gary Numan song. There are a couple of rock bands on it that are more to my liking. They sound like they could be the soundtrack to someone's old home movies where everyone took the "moustache" seriously. Pye Flasher is BTO kinda sounding band and George, Paul, Lennon & The Lucies are more 60's sounding( as you can tell by their name). This ain't no Blue Cheer or Public Nuisance, but it is a little hometown history that I never knew about.
