Not bad at all. You can save lots of dough by eating like that. The only drawback is the obnoxious amounts of gas that accompany it all. I tend to use that sort of thing to my advantage though. Mainly on the guys at work. I like getting them back for all the times they got one over on me. My favorite thing to do is to ask them to come over and help me with something and have them walk into my secret attack. Ahh sweet revenge ( or shall I say, sour). When people ask me what I do at work, I just tell them that all we do is run around and fart on each other. Even the owner of the company gets in on it. It keeps everyone laughing. It sure beats the hell out of all of that "Smooth Jazz" that we have to listen to. I don't think I could cope if all I did at work was work, how boring that would be. It seems like I am constantly finding different methods of "shitting on the clock". I'm pretty beaned out and cleaned out for this week. So on to something else.

I've been pretty nuts about this band as of late. They are called Tulsa. I think they are originally from Tulsa, but now they're from The Mission in San Francisco. And like some of the bands from the area (Hickey, 50 Million, Shotwell, to name a few) they have that sloppy, lo-fi, catchy as all hell sound that I like so much. It's kinda like dirty pop songs tuned to alcohol and B.O. For real yo. They recently put out an album on Starcleaners. The vinyl comes with silk screened covers, a zine with the words as well as a cd of the album. This is my cup and there ain't no tea to be found.

Here's two from the new one.

Tulsa - Number One Gorilla

Tulsa - Shallow Water

This is from their split 7 inch with The Answer Lies on Repulsion Records

Tulsa - Fiddler's Green

And some smooth jazz for you

Afro-Punk

I just finished watching Afro-Punk. We were kicking it in the back yard discussing what was more frightening. Zombies or Sociopaths. We were siding with the zombies, seeing as they have evolved from being big, slow and clumsy brain eaters to the more modern running faster than shit kind of brain eaters. Then we went inside and watched the movie. She won the round on that one (with this movie at least). It was sociopaths, especially when you throw mannequins into the mix. Not bad at all. The director of this movie is Jon Knautz. Give this a quick look and let me know what you think, It's only 8 and a half minutes long. It was right down the street from my house and it was on my birthday. It couldn't have been timed better. They're one of my favorites these days, and in my opinion, one of the better Metal bands out there today.

Missile Command was the band that Christy Cather(Vocals and guitar) was in before Ludicra. They were from Davis, CA and put out a self released cassette called "Prepare To Be Attacked". They were one of the first Metal bands that I saw after moving to this town. They played at a place that is not known to be a big supporter of the local Metal scene. So that made it even better. Every once in a while a band comes along and renews my faith in Metal (that's cuz I'm pretty picky about the genre as a whole). That night Missile Command did it for me. I'm a sucker for angular guitars, head banging and someone who understands all that is good about Metal, plus they had two people on vocals and some keyboard in there too. I'm not suprised at all that she went on to form a band as great as Ludicra. Here's a couple from the tape.

Missile Command - Fire

Missile Command - Electric Funeral

Get the whole tape here

I talked to their drummer once and I guess he was the one who was crazy about old school Atari and everything. I asked him if he ever heard of the porno games that they made for Atari, but he had never heard of them. Sometimes I think people might think I'm making it up, but it's real. More often than not, I instantly wake up right around the time that I'm supposed to. Right about 4 am. After doing the same thing every day, It's just become a routine that I've been conditioned to. It's usually timed perfect to whatever I'm dreaming about. The other night, I was having this dream about a guy who was going around and killing all of these women. It was largely influenced by the tv shows that Zelly and Melissa were watching when I went to bed(Criminal Minds & CSI). Well this guy was running amok, killing all of these women with a gun. They all had daughters too, and he killed them as well. After his last killing, he got careless and put down his gun on a table right by the woman and her daughter and went looking through their stuff. The woman wasn't actually dead, she was just playing it. When he wasn't looking, she reached for the gun and shot him in the neck, right in the Adam's apple. He got up, ran for the door, jumped in his car and drove off. Then some random person walking down the street looks over and says " If he can't make it to the hospital in time, well then he's just a wimp". After that being said, I woke up and realised that my alarm wasn't set. It was right around 4 am.

Jay Reatard - Turning Blue

You can buy Jay Reatard stuff over here

5 Dollar Burrito

I believe I'm coming out of the hermit hole. I am a hibernator of sorts. I'd love it if I had a sleep hut made out of nothing but blankets and pillows ( and plenty of tunes). It would probably have to have some good ventilation in it too. I don't want it smelling like week old body parts in there. ............. I woke myself up at 8 o' clock last saturday and hopped on the Lite Rail and went down to the flea market on Folsom. The first thing I did when I got there was go to the taco truck. I walked up and ordered a burrito and then noticed that the thing cost 5 bucks. Holy cow! It's been a while since I've been to one of those. I used to live off those trucks. But that was when they were 2 bucks. Nothing good sticks around exactly how you remember them. .......... Time goes on and I start sounding like an old timer. I bought one anyway, just because I had my heart set on it. That's how much they charge at the fancy taquerias around town anyway. It was pretty good. It had that homemade taste and they crammed it full. I still think there should be 2 dollar burritos (right across the street from my house would be nice). After my grub, I looked around and flicked through a ton of VHS tapes. I found some old horror movie, but I didn't snag it. I was gonna come back around and get it later. I spaced that one. I went to the building with all of the cassettes next. I found a few old metal tapes there in the past. I dug through the them for a while and then what happens to me everytime I go looking for stuff happened to me. I had to take a dump. I went to about five different stalls and outhouses before settling on the sixth one. They were all smeared with crap, didn't have any butt paper or they were flooded and wouldn't flush. When I got out, I felt like a 5 dollar burrito for 2 bucks. I walked back down the corridor where the tapes were and saw a small stack of records and found "Craps" by Richard Pryor. I looked inside and it looked pretty clean. Some guy came by and eyeballed my find for a good 20 seconds, and then he split. On the way out, I stopped in the book bunker. It was cold as winter balls in there. It smells kinda funny in there too, but you get used to it fast. It's not the safest place in the world to be, seeing as it's closed off to the side and full of books and magazines everywhere and no one really keeps an eye on it. It kinda makes your imagination run wild and vision a bunch of killers lurking behind every corner. That's part of the fun. I looked around for a while in there and then walked to the back, looked on the ground and found a copy of the science fiction mag "Future Life" from 1980 with Carl Sagan on the cover. I got both for a dollar. All in all, it was a good day for this little hermit.

Here's the last bit from the Richard Pryor album

Fartin'

Here's a video of Carl Sagan

Right Here

The Lizards and Elmer

The Lizards are one of many of my favorite local bands. Before I lived in Sacramento, I used to drive up and see them whenever they played. So when I moved, they were an added bonus to be around. After I had been living in town, I went down to Stockton to see them at the CSM with The Oozzies............ I think....... The crowd down there pretty much ignored them. Nobody came up close to watch them exept for me and and my friend Redge and one big pissed off guy with a moustache. He kept yelling at them, shouting out stuff like "faggot" and "fuckin' queers". At one point, He grabbed the mic and yelled out something like " go back to Sacramento and suck your own dicks you fuckin' fags". What a freakin' party pooper, but he was pretty funny to watch. The Lizards played a rockin' set and then the singer Dave jumped into the drum set when they were done and knocked them all over the place, followed by some chaotic feedback for a few minutes. Now that's a show. They've had a few different members through their existence. This recording has Donny Jupiter from The Twinkeyz on guitars and Chris Woodhouse from The FM Knives on bass. Later members would include Jay Onyskin from The Sea Pigs and The Horny Mormons on bass and Matt K. Shrugg from The Losin Streaks on drums. The main stays in the band were Dave Downey on guitar/vocs and Hal MacLean on the drums. This is my favorite song by them. It's from the Lizards/ Elmer split 7 inch. It came out on Turgid Records in 1994.

The Lizards - Can't Cope

Elmer had Hal's brother Jim in it, who were both in Sewer Trout. Elmer were similar in sound to Sewer Trout, but more on the country side of punk.( I almost said cowpunk, but that makes me think of all of those LA bands from the 80's) They were pretty great as well. I only had the chance to see them once, but I'm glad I did. Their version of Kenny Roger's " The Gambler" made my night. I figured that since I put up a song from the Lizards side, it wouldn't be complete without a song from the Elmer side.

Elmer - Creature Of Habit

On a side note, Dave Downey has a comic book store that's worth checking out if that's your thing.

Fear of God

Here's a couple tunes from Fear of God's "Within the Veil". Dawn Crosby was the singer of this band. She was also in the thrash metal band "Detente". Unfortunately, she died back in 1996. The End Records just re-released Detente's "Recognize No Authority". Detente were good and all, but her vocals really shined on the Fear of God stuff. It was far more gloomy and dark and more "Metal" in my eyes. I remember my friend had a song of their's on some compilation and I remember it sounding pretty heavy and liking it. That's about all I heard of them, riding around in his car listening to that one song. Fast forward up to 2006 and I finally hear them again, thanks to Melissa's friend T-bone. She sent her home with a CD for me to check out and it was pretty damn good. It definately stood the test of time.
